The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will get a free graphical upgrade for next-gen consoles

Geralt’s headed for next-gen consoles.

Developer CD Projekt Red has announced that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be upgraded for next-generation consoles. Those who already own the game on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will even get the upgraded version for free!

CD Projekt Red wasn’t ready to show off next-gen gameplay just yet, but they did detail its many improvements. The next-gen version of the game will boast, “a range of visual and technical improvements,” which include ray tracing and faster load times. These improvements will be applied across the base game, both expansions and all extra content.

Players who picked up the game after watching Netflix’s Witcher series now have a reason to return to the game - besides its excellent story, of course. The game will also be available as a standalone purchase on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, for those who would rather wait to play the best version of the game.

Marvel’s Avengers will also get upgraded for free on next-generation consoles. Hopefully, more games follow this path - it’s certainly better than having to buy the same game twice.
