With just days away from the official launch of Windows Phone 8, Microsoft has something to cheer about right now as the Windows Phone Marketplace hits another milestone.

According to All About Windows Phone, the Windows Phone Marketplace has a total of 126,530 apps being published in the past 20 months. Although it is not official numbers from Microsoft, the site has been accurate in its Windows Phone app statistics in the past.

As of 22nd October, there are 113,170 apps which are publicly listed as available for download across 60 countries. The Windows Phone app ecosystem also reached the 125,000 milestone faster than Google Android (26 months), but slower than Apple iOS (18.5 months). Here's a break down in the growth of the Windows Phone Marketplace:

  • 50,000 apps on 27th December 2011
  • 60,000 apps on 22nd Janurary 2012
  • 70,000 apps on 23rd February 2012
  • 80,000 apps on 26th March 2012
  • 90,000 apps on 30th April 2012
  • 100,000 apps on 3rd May 2012
  • 125,000 apps on 14th October 2012

Apple App Store has more than 700,000 apps while Google states on its Nexus web page that its Play Store has over 600,000 apps. Compared to the two mobile platforms, Microsoft certainly has much to catch up although quantity doesn't necessarily equate to quality.
