According to market share data from Net Applications, market share of Microsoft's new Windows 8 OS is still drastically lesser than that of Windows 7 and even Windows XP. Net Applications records data captured from around 160 million users each month.

Looking at the data, we can see that Windows is by far the most popular OS, but out of all Windows users, only a staggering 3.31% are on Windows 8. 44.73% of users are still using Windows 7 and more incredibly, over 37% of Windows users are using Windows XP.

And considering that the Windows 8 upgrade deal has already expired, it looks like market share of Windows 8 won't be increasing much in the near future. Consumers will now have to pay the full purchase price of Windows 8 or buy systems that are pre-installed with the OS.
