Windows 10 Fall Creators Update to arrive October 17

Microsoft has announced that the next major update for Windows 10, the Fall Creators Update, will be available October 17.

The Fall Creators Update is set to bring several major new features and enhancements to the operating system, including better Windows Inking, OneDrive Files On-Demand, an updated Game Mode, a smarter Windows Defender, and several accessibility improvements, such as Eye Control. Most users will also notice for the first time (subtle) design changes fueled by Microsoft’s new Fluent Design in several first-party apps.

The People integration, which was originally planned for April’s Creators Update but didn't make it in time, will now be part of the Fall Creators Update. Unfortunately, the new Timeline feature and cloud-powered clipboard that were announced and demoed at Build 2017 have been delayed.

Another major new addition to the Fall Creators Update is Windows Mixed Reality. Several PC OEMs, such as Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo, are onboard Microsoft’s VR/MR platform, and are preparing headsets priced as low as US$299 for release on October 17.
