Widgets tipped to be key feature of watchOS 10
watchOS 10 might bring a new widget system to the Apple Watch's user interface.
Mark Gurman of Bloomberg claims widgets will be a central feature of the new interface on watchOS 10. It is expected to combine the Glances system of the old watchOS interface and the widget style of iOS 14 where users can scroll through the widgets to access information such as weather, calendar appointment and activity tracking. The widget system will be an overlay for any watch face and work in a similar manner as widget stacks on iOS/iPad.
In addition, Apple is considering to change the functions of some of the buttons on the Apple Watch. A press of the Digital Crown could launch widgets instead of the home screen. Overall, the new interface in watchOS 10 is designed to give users quicker access to information they need.
Gurman reiterates that this year's update to the Apple Watches could be minor with watchOS 10 being the biggest change. Another tipster says watchOS 10 will look more like iOS and have the option to use folders.
Apple will preview the "latest iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS advancements" at WWDC 2023 from 5 June to 9 June.
