Earlier this year, WhatsApp announced that it was working on a multi-device feature that would enable users to link up to four devices to their WhatsApp account without needing to be connected via smartphone.

And since then, the feature has been rolled out as a beta to selected users. Now, the feature is available to all iOS and Android users.

The feature is still in beta and requires users to opt-in. To do so, launch WhatsApp on your phone, go to Settings, and then Linked Devices, and finally Multi-Device Beta.

After your devices are linked, you can receive and send WhatsApp messages using the desktop app or WhatsApp web even if your phone is offline.

There are, however, some limitations. WhatsApp says you cannot message or call from web, desktop, or Portal to users who are using outdated versions of WhatsApp on their phone. WhatsApp also says performance and quality may be affected. Finally, your linked devices will be disconnected if your phone is not used in 14 days.

Oh, you also cannot link an iPad to a phone, though WhatsApp has said on many occasions that it is working on an iPad version of its app.
