WhatsApp will let iPhone users send photos and videos in their original quality

No one is sure why it has taken this long, but WhatsApp will finally allow iPhone users to send photos and videos in their original, uncompressed quality.

This is different from the "HD quality" option that WhatsApp introduced in August earlier this year. That option still had compression – albeit less than "Standard quality."

However, using this new feature is quite confusing because you need to send the photo or video as a "Document." You will see this option when you tap on the + icon on the left of the text field.

To send photos and videos in their original quality, you need to send it as a "Document."

Thereafter, you will see the option to "Choose from Files" or "Choose Photo or Video." Selecting the latter will bring you to your photo library.

A couple of things to note: there's a 2GB file size limit and the files sent do not appear as a preview. Not having a preview might throw your recipients off since WhatsApp typically shows a preview for sent photos and videos.

Also, this feature is only available for iPhone users right now, but one has to presume WhatsApp is also working on enabling it for Android users.
