WhatsApp adds four new text formatting options to make messaging clearer than before

WhatsApp adds four new formatting options to its instant messaging app.

Ever wish your WhatsApp messages get better formatting tools? There’s more available now.

WhatsApp today (21 February 2024) released four new text formatting options for its users to better craft and organise messages for even more effective communication.

The four new formatting options are:

  • Bullet Lists — also known as bullet points. Use the - symbol followed by a single spacing to trigger this formatting tool
  • Numbered Lists — the numbered version, which is more suitable for recapping sequential points (steps in a process, a series of events). Use digits and a period, followed by a single spacing to trigger it.
  • Block Quote — to highlight verbatim quotes from people. Use the > symbol to trigger this.
  • Inline Code — for developers or coders sharing code snippets and commands with others. To trigger this, wrap the text with the tilde symbol `like this`.

All WhatsApp formatting options, and how to use them.

These four formatting options join existing ones, like bold, italic, and strikethrough, which were launched many moons ago.
