WhatsApp’s new Chat Filters is the inbox organisation everyone’s waiting for

WhatsApp introduces Chat Filters, making it easier to jump to some messages.

WhatsApp has introduced a new feature to help everyone organise chat messages.

Announced today (17 April 2024), WhatsApp now comes with Chat Filters, allowing users to quickly jump to a category of messages for quick follow-up and reduced clutter.

This alleviates the need the scroll through the whole inbox, especially if you use WhatsApp for various reasons (messaging loved ones, checking updates in group chats, and addressing work-related messages).

The new Chat Filter starts with three categories at the top of the app’s chat list. They are All, Unread, and Groups:

  • All is the default view of all your messages, and also the current state of WhatsApp
  • Unread only shows chat messages that you’ve not opened to check (it also works if you marked them as unread), letting you prioritise responding to people and groups first
  • Groups only show you group chats. According to WhatsApp, it’s one of the most highly-requested filters by existing WhatsApp users

These Chat Filters will begin rolling out to WhatsApp users globally, over the coming weeks.
