This is what the Windows 10 retail boxes look like

As Windows 10 continues its march towards RTM status and its July 29 release, we now have a leak on what the retail packaging looks like.

Overall, the box art is kept simple, with Microsoft making use of the OS’ new Tron-ish wallpaper. And colors - basically purple and blue - are used to seperate the Pro and Home editions.

Microsoft would also be selling Windows 10 on USB flash drives. And the artwork for that is even simpler, making use of just the Windows logo in purple and blue shades.

Of course, this is only of interest if you’re buying full versions of Windows 10 in retail stores. Most of us won’t really need to, as Microsoft is making the OS a free upgrade for Windows 7 and 8.x users starting July 29.

On a related note, hours ago, Microsoft has detailed its launch and marketing plans for Windows 10. First, the company intends to celebrate the launch with Windows Insiders (there are more than 5 million of them) at special events around the world, including Sydney, Tokyo, Singapore, Beijing, New Delhi, Dubai, Nairobi, Berlin, Johannesburg, Madrid, London, São Paulo, and New York City. These celebrations will offer hands-on opportunities, experiential demos, entertainment, and opportunities to meet the Windows team. Other plans include a global ad campaign that will begin on July 20, and a year-long Upgrade Your World charity initiative.

For consumers, Microsoft Stores will also celebrate the launch in more than 110 stores in the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. In other places around the world, the company is working closely with retailers to introduce programs to help users upgrade their systems. According to Bloomberg, while final version of the OS has yet to reach OEMs (or maybe it has), Microsoft is saying that Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Acer would have machines pre-loaded with Windows 10 for sale in stores on July 29.
