Wells, the premium Korean lifestyle brand most well known for its sleek The One water filtration and dispenser system, has launched a companion product called the Wells Home Café. It is designed to fit right into The One and has similarly gotten Red Dot Design and iF Design awards.
Functionally, the Wells Home Café is basically a Nespresso-compatible capsule machine - the one that takes Nespresso Original Line capsules, not the newer Vertuo series, so you're open to a whole range of aftermarket pods for both coffee and tea.
What makes the Wells Home Café such an interesting product compared to a basic Nespresso machine is that it is directly plumbed-in and connected to the same filtration system as The One. You never have to refill a water tank, and it will always brew coffee and tea with crisp, filtered water at the appropriate temperatures. You also don’t need to worry about cleaning up, as it also has built-in self-sterilisation and cleaning cycles.
The Wells Home Café also has a unique dual extraction system, with dedicated coffee and tea capsule drawers and recipes. The machine will detect which drawer is inserted and offer the correct brewing options. When the coffee drawer is used, the Home Café will make a Ristretto (25ml), Espresso (40ml), and Lungo (110ml). When the tea drawer it used, options will change to a Rich (80ml), Medium (100ml), or Mild (130ml) cup. It will also dispense coffee and tea in separate nozzles to avoid cross contamination of flavours as well as maintain overall cleanliness over time.
The downside to being plumbed-in and requiring a filtration system means that your initial setup cost will be significantly higher than just getting a Nespresso machine. For existing customers already invested in Wells The One however, the Home Café will be a simple pairing upgrade, but do note that it is only available in Dark Brown or White colours at the moment. So if you have one of the funkier Pink or Mint-coloured The Ones, you’re out of luck, though we’re sure that Wells will eventually expand the range.
Wells does not list the price for The One and Home Café online, and prefers customers to call in for a customised quotation, so if you’re interested, they’ve also just opened a brand new Experience Centre located at TradeHub 21 in Boon Lay Way with a functional kitchen area and a Kids Room, so you can leave the kiddos to their own devices while you explore the possibilities of The One and Home Café in your own home.
