Here's good news for those of us who travel to China often. Tencent has just announced that it is collaborating with Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover Global Network (including Diners Club) and JCB to enable overseas users to link their credit cards to WeChat Pay and use it for payment for transactions and services in China. So, you'll be able to use WeChat Pay to buy railway tickets, hail for a ride on Didi, pay for your purchases on JD.com and more.

China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism reports that the the number of inbound tourists reached 141.2 million in 2018, an increase of 1.2% over the same period of the previous year.  There are also more than 950,000 foreigners working in China, and the country has cumulatively issued 336,000 overseas talent work permits in 2018, so you can see how all these people will benefit from being able to use local mobile payments.

The graphic below illustrates how to add your international credit card to the WeChat Pay wallet.
