29 November 2021 update: Updated with Singapore pricing and availability.

Vivo X70 series phones.

Vivo today officially announced its Vivo X70 phone series, which consists of three models - the Vivo X70 Pro+Vivo X70 Pro, and Vivo X70. Naturally, they are a follow-up to Vivo’s X60 series devices, and the ZEISS optics partnership for its cameras make a return.

If you’re curious about how the newer X70 series compare against its X60 range, don’t forget to check out the Vivo X60 Pro review here, and its pricing and availability details here. Let’s get into the new handsets.

ZEISS and gimbal stabilisation returns

With the ZEISS partnership still in effect, Vivo’s X70 series phones committed further to its imaging capabilities. ZEISS T* Coating comes to every ZEISS-branded rear camera, helping to reduce lens flares and ghosting.

All three X70 options have identical 32MP front cameras. However, the rear cameras differ:

  • Vivo X70 Pro+: quad rear setup with 50MP main, 48MP gimbal-stabilised ultrawide, 12MP telephoto (2x optical zoom), and 8MP periscope telephoto (5x optical zoom). It also gets an Imaging Chip V1 for added image processing prowess through noise reduction.
  • Vivo X70 Pro: quad rear setup with 50MP main and gimbal stabilisation, 12MP ultrawide, same 12MP telephoto, and same 8MP periscope telephoto.
  • Vivo X70: triple rear setup with 40MP main and gimbal stabilisation, 12MP ultrawide, and 12MP telephoto (with 2x optical zoom)

The Pro+ version gets its gimbal stabilisation on its ultra-wide shooter, while the Pro and regular X70 has an Ultra-Sensing Gimbal Camera coupled with Gimbal Stabilisation 3.0 on its main camera.

It’s not just the imaging hardware that Vivo tweaked. New to the phones are three more ZEISS-branded portrait filters inspired by classic ZEISS lenses: Distagon, Planar, and Sonnar. Vivo said that Distagon offers dynamic perspective effects suited for interior photography, Planar has the classic bokeh look for portrait shoots, and Sonnar’s creamier bokeh adds the needed depth and clarity for documenting the past.

MediaTek and Qualcomm processors depending on model

Vivo X70 Pro+.

Not all X70 series phones are created equal. Only the Vivo X70 Pro+ gets a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor, while the other two pack a MediaTek Dimensity 1200 chipset each. Also, the Pro+ comes with faster LPDDR5 RAM, while its alternatives get the much more common LPDDR4X RAM instead. That said, all three models are 5G-capable, thanks to Vivo’s processor choices.

Vivo X70 Pro+ finally gets wireless charging

Vivo X70 Pro.

The Vivo X70 Pro+’s 4,500mAh battery comes with 55W wired FlashCharge, and also 50W Qi-compatible Wireless FlashCharge. Previously, even its Pro+ version of the X series didn’t have wireless charging, so that’s a nice perk added.

X70 Pro’s and X70 are fitted with 4,450mAh and 4,400mAh respectively. Both pack 44W FlashCharge support along with its compatible fast-charger.

Other perks

Vivo X70.

To further prop the Vivo X70 Pro+ up as a true flagship device, it comes with Vivo’s first-ever IP68 water resistance rating. The other two devices weren’t so fortunate to get that perk, though.

All three devices are fitted with Samsung’s AMOLED panels, offering 120Hz refresh rate across the board. But, the Vivo X70 Pro+’s panel is E5 LPTO AMOLED, granting it up to 1,500-nits peak brightness. Also, Pro+’s 6.783-inch display is at WQHD resolution (1440p), while X70 Pro and X70’s 6.56-inch displays are Full HD (1080p) resolution.

All three have NFC support, an under-display fingerprint sensor, a USB-C port, Bluetooth 5.2, and up to Wi-Fi 6 compatibility. Since these points were announced now (and not next year), the phones have a Vivo-skinned Android 11 operating system.

Pricing and availability

As a global announcement, local prices and availability won’t come until Vivo’s ready to bring the devices to our shores. However, the brand said it’s gradually rolling them out across APAC and the Middle East. For the time being, here are its official prices (followed by its RAM + internal storage configuration) in other currencies:

  • Vivo X70 Pro+: CNY5,499 (8+256GB), CNY5,999 (12+256GB), CNY6,999 (12+512GB)
