8 January 2021 update: Vivo changed the official retail price of the X50e 5G, effective today. More details below.

If you found the 5G-capable Vivo X50 Pro amazing but don't need a built-in gimbal for photo-taking, Vivo finally has an alternative for you to consider - the Vivo X50e 5G.

Like the Vivo X50 Pro, the X50e 5G comes with an identical processor, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G with support for our local 5G networks. Unlike the X50 Pro, the X50e 5G goes all-in on advancing its 5G connection with proprietary antenna decoupling technology (DES) and side-distributed antenna system (SDAS).

At 8.88mm, it's still slim, but nowhere as slim as the X50 Pro's 8.04mm. The X50e 5G's slight increase in thickness also brought about a small bump to battery capacity, bringing it up to 4,350mAh. Wired fast-charging is available via Vivo's 33W FlashCharge.

On the front is a 6.44-inch AMOLED display rated at 2,400 x 1,080 pixels resolution (FHD+), and it's also a dual SIM phone where the second slot doubles as a microSD card slot. Like most Android phones this year, it runs on Android 10 out of the box, skinned beneath its Funtouch OS 10.

The quad-rear camera configuration consists of a 48MP main shooter, 13MP portrait camera, 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and 2MP macro camera. As mentioned, it doesn't have the unique gimbal system for stabilisation, but it still offers OIS and an AI algorithm for smarter light calibration and capturing. The combination of lenses offers 2x optical zoom and up to 20x digital zoom.

It nearly has everything you could ask for in a mid-range phone, except that the Vivo X50e lacks NFC support and IP-certified waterproofing. It does, however, come at a very tantalising price tag for its SD765G smartphone.
