Vivo’s new S1 smartphone sports a sleek gradient finish

Vivo has just announced the launch their latest smartphone – the S1. This has a 6.38-inch Super AMOLED Display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and a screen-to-body ratio of 90% thanks to the use of a pinhole selfie camera and under screen fingerprint sensor. A variety of animations are available for this to add a touch of whimsy to the otherwise mundane screen unlock experience, but the sensor is actually accurate enough to unlock the device in under 0.4 seconds.

The rear camera set-up has an 8-megapixel AI Super Wide-Angle Camera with a 120 degrees field-of-view.

When it comes to photo-taking, the S1 comes with an industry-leading 32MP selfie camera and an AI Triple rear camera so you can get quality images of yourself and the world around you. The triple rear camera consists of a 16-megapixel Sony IMX499 Camera Sensor, an 8-megapixel AI Super Wide-Angle Camera that goes up to 120 degrees wide; and a 2-megapixel depth camera.

Meanwhile, the 32-megapixel front camera is paired with features like the AI Face Beauty function which provides custom beauty templates. Multiple selfie modes like Selfie Frontlight, AR Stickers, and AI Filter add to the fun of taking selfies, so you and your friends can have a blast with selfies and wefies wherever you are.

Selfies should be even clearer than before with the 32MP front camera.

Running on a 12nm octa-core processor with clock speeds of up to 2.0GHz, the smartphone is also equipped with 6GB RAM and 128GB ROM so your apps and games will run smoothly even while multi-tasking. The S1 also boasts an Ultra Game Mode and Multi-Turbo Engine. The former lets you customize your gaming experience, so you can control how notifications appear and how system resources are used. Multi-Turbo engine on the other hand, is a set of smart boosters for software and hardware specifically built to provide a better gaming experience - including reducing Frame Per Second lag.

Vivo’s AI is also more powerful now, with a dedicated Smart Button and Jovi Image Recogniser, and a more intuitive version of Google Assistant, that’s been customised for Vivo customers. A single click of the Smart Button will bring up Google Assistant, while a double-press triggers Jovi Image Recogniser for access to almost a hundred mainstream e-commerce platforms to search through databases of over half a billion products.

Take your pick of Cosmic Purple (left) or Aqua Blue (right).

The S1 runs on Android 9 with the latest FunTouch OS, and is available now at all major telcos, authorized retailers, and Vivo's flagship store on Lazada for just S$399 (without contract). The phone comes in a choice of Cosmic Purple or Aqua Blue, and all sets will also come with a 2-year local warranty and a 1 time free screen replacement.
