U.S. market for phablets reportedly quadrupled in 2015, with the iPhone 6 Plus leading the way

According to data from Kantar Worldpanel, the market for phablets in the U.S. grew four times in Q1 of 2015. A year ago, the market for phablets stood at just 6%. It is now 21%.

The growth can be largely attributed to Apple's iPhone 6 Plus, which garnered a monster 44% share of all phablets in the U.S.

One reason why phablets are so popular is because they perform the dual roles of a regular smartphone and tablet so well. And judging from the tremendous growth of this class of products, it is clear that users do value mobile devices with sizable displays.

Elsewhere, Kantar Worldpanel's studies also reveal that Android remains the most popular mobile OS in the U.S. with a market share of 58.1%, and that LG had a particularly good first quarter in 2015.
