While Samsung is focusing on an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor and a nearly bezel-less display for its Galaxy S10, LG will use superior smartphone audio as a key feature of its upcoming G8 ThinQ flagship smartphone.

LG has announced that the G8 ThinQ smartphone will have Crystal Sound OLED (CSO) technology which makes use of the display as a speaker. The OLED display will function as a diaphragm and the entire surface will vibrate to produce sound with impressive volume.

Other benefits of CSO technology include improved clarity, making voices easier to discern, and making subtle musical notes more noticable. The CSO technology will augment the bottom speaker to deliver impressive bass and full-bodied stereo performance. Although CSO technology is new for smartphones, LG has been using it for OLED TVs in 2018.

The G8 ThinQ smartphone also comes with DTS:X 3D surround sound to emulate a 7.1-channel system (with or without earphones, which is a first for LG), Hi-Fi Quad DAC for reproducing sound with exceptional fidelity, Master Quality Authenticated (MQA) support for high-quality audio streaming and BoomBox speaker which uses the internal space of the handset as a resonance chamber to generate amazing bass and more volume.

LG will unveil the G8 ThinQ smartphone at Mobile World Congress 2019 later this month. Tipster @evleaks has already jumped the gun by publishing purported photos of the handset.
