Uniqlo Singapore and Studio Ghibli unveil new collection at Bugis+
Uniqlo Singapore revealed its second collaborative collection with renowned Japanese animation house, Studio Ghibli, during a notable event at Bugis+ on August 17. Named “Hey, Let’s Go!”, this follows their well-received initial offering.
Present at the launch were key figures from both the fashion and animation sectors. Toshio Suzuki, Studio Ghibli’s representative director and producer, was joined by Mario Maurer, a celebrated Thai actor and a known Ghibli enthusiast. Both shared insights about the inspiration behind the collection and the iconic studio's celebrated works.
A highlight of the event was Suzuki's reflection on the collaboration, “This gathering in Singapore comes on the heels of an earlier celebration in Thailand. We’ve seen an overwhelming appreciation for Studio Ghibli’s work from Southeast Asian fans, and we’re genuinely pleased to debut this Uniqlo and Studio Ghibli collection in Singapore.”
The event was more than just a collection showcase; it was an immersive Ghibli experience. Attendees indulged in a host of Ghibli-themed activities, including photo opportunities with life-sized inflatables of beloved characters like Totoro and the Cat Bus. The iconic Yubaba mascot also made a special appearance. To engage fans, a mall-wide stamp rally was organised, where attendees could seek out six limited-edition stamps distributed throughout the venue. To top it all off, guests were treated to a screening of the classic, 'My Neighbour Totoro', the first in a line-up of six films set to be screened during the UNIQLO and Studio Ghibli Film Fest at Golden Village Bugis+.
For those who missed the launch, the Ghibli excitement continues. Bugis+ will be hosting the series of special activities and the film festival from August 18 to September 14, 2023. A treat indeed for all Studio Ghibli aficionados in the region.
