Under-display Face ID could debut on the iPhone 17 Pro

An under-display Face ID could come to the iPhone 17 Pro in 2027.

Under-display Face ID could debut on the iPhone in 2025.

Display analyst Ross Young shared in a tweet that he expects the under-display Face ID to launch on the iPhone 17 Pro. The under-display Face ID will be paired with a circular cutout for the front camera for two years before Apple implements an under-display camera.

Reports over the past year have suggested 2024 to be the year where the iPhone would come with an under-display Face ID. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed in April 2022 that the "real full-screen iPhone" would be the iPhone 16 Pro. TheElec reported earlier this year that Apple plans to shift the Face ID components directly under the iPhone 16 Pro's display. Young's previous forecast also indicated a 2024 timeline, but he recently revealed that the one-year delay is caused by "sensor issues".
