UK to ban Huawei from 5G networks

Following the U.S export ban to cut off Huawei's access to overseas chip makers, the U.K government announced that it will completely remove Huawei from its 5G networks by the end of 2027.

The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) published its new advice after reviewing the consequences of the U.S sanctions against the Chinese company. It was determined that Huawei needs to do a major reconfiguration of the supply chain and there are no alternatives to the technology which it currently relies on. Hence, the security of Huawei equipment in the future cannot be guaranteed.

U.K telcos are also banned from purchasing any new Huawei 5G kit from next year, which paves the way for complete removal of Huawei 5G equipment by end 2027.
