Tribecar just announced a new affordable subscription plan that could work for people who have specific car usage requirements.

Let's get prices out of the way first before I tell you about how the plan actually works.

As part of an introductory promo, Tribecar members can subscribe now to their new subscription plan for S$88 (S$94.16 with GST) for 4 weeks instead of the usual price of S$128 (S$136.96 with GST).

And as a member of this plan, you are entitled to the following: 2 hours of use of any vehicle in Tribecar's fleet each day from Monday 12am to Friday 5pm. This means up to 40 hours of use every 4 weeks.

Additionally, Tribecar places limits on sign-ups per area to ensure sufficient cars for users. Also, you can book the car up to 2 hours in advance.

As it is, I can see this plan being handy for users who need a car on weekday mornings to send their children to school and run morning errands.

This sounds enticing and exciting but note that they are some caveats with this plan.

Crucially, the two hours of usage it only applicable between Monday 12am and Friday 5pm. And it doesn't apply to public holidays and certain blackout dates.

Also, advance booking is only up to two hours. So, assuming you want to ensure you have a car at 6am in the morning for the school run, you'll need to get up at 4am to make a booking.

And of course, while Tribecar limits sign-ups to ensure there are sufficient cars for users in the area, ultimately there's no guarantee that you will get a car when you want it especially if you intend to drive during peak hours. There's a reason why they are called peak hours, after all.

Still, even at the usual price of S$136.96 per month, this sounds like a pretty good deal, especially if you are willing to be flexible with your schedule.

And as a Tribecar member, you are still entitled to book the cars outside the stipulated hours. You just have to pay extra.
