Transcend has just released the JetDrive Lite 330 memory expansion cards that were made specifically for last year's 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro.

Last year's revamped MacBook Pros were favourably received by reviewers and users alike. One reason why is the return of the memory card slot.

Much to the dismay of many professionals, the memory card slot was from MacBook Pros made between 2016 and 2020.

The return of the memory card slot not only makes it easy for professionals to transfer their work out of their devices and onto their Macs. It also makes affordable storage expansion possible. This is important because equipping your MacBook Pro with more storage from the factory is expensive.

The JetDrive Lite 330 was made specifically for these new MacBook Pros and they slot into the memory card slot and sit flush with the chassis.

They are available in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB capacities. Claimed maximum read and write speeds are 95MB/s and 75MB/s respectively.

It's nowhere near as fast as an external SSD (like the SanDisk Extreme series) but it'll suffice for data that aren't performance-critical.

Availability and pricing

No word yet on local availability and pricing. However, the Transcend JetDrive Lite 330 is already available on Amazon. The 128GB version is US$35.99 (~S$48.34), the 256GB version is US$63.99 (~S$85.95), and the 512GB version is US$89.99 (~S$120.87).
