Tipster claims Apple is developing a foldable iPhone/iPad
Apple is said to be developing a foldable iPhone/iPad device according to tipster jon_prosser.
The tipster was responding to a tweet by @GregoryMcFadden that "Apple is in a unique position to leverage an iPhone + iPad like device in one." When asked to confirm whether such a device is coming, @jon_prosser acknowledged it.
Apple has been rumoured to be looking at foldable devices since 2017. Korean publication The Bell reported in October 2017 that Apple is working with LG on a foldable iPhone. The U.S Patent and Trademark Office published an application by Apple on a foldable display in the following month.
A year later, Apple was granted a second patent for a foldable iPhone design with flexible hinge. ETNews claimed in March 2018 that Samsung supplied foldable display samples to Apple and Google for testing.
UBS said in an August 2019 report that Apple is expected to launch its first foldable device in 2021 and it is likely to be a foldable iPad. Earlier in March, Patently Apple spotted Apple's patent application for a foldable iPad which seems to use the same approach as the Microsoft Surface Duo and Neo.
