These are the top 10 Google searches in Singapore for the year

2020 has been quite an eventful year with raging wildfires, a coronavirus pandemic, the U.S elections, the Singapore Elections, and more. Google just published its annual Year in Search with a list of top trending topics and events that captured Singaporeans' attention.

Top 10 searches in 2020

  5. Zoom

  7. Google Meet 
  8. Joe Biden 
  9. Kobe Bryant 
  10. English Premier League 

The recent U.S Elections surpassed the coronavirus as the top trending search among Singaporeans. It is also the top trending international news. As Singapore entered into a circuit breaker (CB) period from 7 April to 1 June, e-learning platforms (e.g. Student Learning Space) and video conferencing solutions (e.g. Google Classroom, Zoom, Google Meet) become one of the top searches.  

When it comes to the most searched movie titles, Parasite emerged at the top of the chart followed by Mulan, Tenet, Train to Busan 2, and 1917. Korean dramas continue to dominate the list of most searched TV shows; four of the top six searches are Korean titles - Crash Landing on You, Itaweon Class, It's Okay Not To Be Okay, and The King: Eternal Monarch. 

For tech, iPhones are very popular devices among consumers in Singapore. 6 of the top 10 trending phones are iPhones. The iPhone 12 is the top trending phone followed by the iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone SE, Samsung S20 and iPhone 11. The iPhone 11 Pro Max and iPhone 12 Mini are ranked 7th and 8th position respectively. 

Politicians made up the majority of trending Singapore personalities with Jamus Lim warming the cockles of people's hearts at first position. The other politicians in the lsit include Ivan Lim (2nd), Ng Chee Meng (4th), Nicole Seah (5th), Pritam Singh (8th), Tan Cheng Bock (9th) and Heng Swee Keat (10th).
