These are the top 10 Google searches in Singapore for 2018
2018 was an action-packed year, for better or worse. From the British royal wedding to the North Korea-US summit right here on our sunny island (not forgetting the World Cup!), there was a lot going on in this one year.
In keeping with tradition, Google has now published its annual Year in Search, wrapping up 2018 with a list of the top trending topics and events that captured the attention of Singaporeans and had them searching on Google for answers.
Here's a look at the top searches for 2018:
- World Cup
- Malaysia Elections
- Australian Open 2018
- Najib Razak
- Stan Lee
- Thai cave rescue
- Black Panther
- Trump-Kim Summit
- Meghan Markle
- Avengers: Infinity War
If there's one key takeaway from all this, it's that Singaporeans are super interested in sports and superheroes, with five out of 10 of the search terms falling into these two categories. The elections across the causeway that toppled a decades-long regime also garnered significant interest, with the Malaysia Elections and Najib Razak taking second and fourth place respectively.
A look at the most searched for movies also reveals just how much we like our superheroes. Black Panther occupied the number one spot, with Avengers: Infinity War and Deadpool 2 following behind. Venom took fifth place, while the rest of the list comprised an eclectic mix including Crazy Rich Asians, A Quiet Place, The Nun, and Jurassic World.
In tech, the iPhone XS topped the list, followed by the Samsung Galaxy Note9 and the iPhone XR. Huawei's Mate 20 Pro was fourth, while the Google Pixel 3 came in sixth.
Elsewhere, it seems like Korean dramas have been displaced by popular Chinese hit drama Story of Yanxi Palace, which topped the year's list of trending TV shows.
