Telegram marks 700 million users with new premium tier

Telegram just announced that it has over 700 million active users. It also announced a new premium tier called Telegram Premium that will give its most diehard users a way to support the team.

Telegram Premium will be offered as a subscription service and members will receive "exclusive additional features" such as higher limits, faster download speeds, exclusive stickers, and more.

Telegram has just published a post detailing these additional features and some standouts include 4GB uploads. This is double the limit of free users.

In addition to this, premium subscribers will also be able to download media and files "at the fastest possible speed." This is quite vague because Telegram didn't specify just how fast or how much faster.

The limits for premium users will also be doubled. For example, they will be able to follow up to 1,000 channels, create up to 20 chat folders and have up to 200 chats each, pin up to 10 chats in the main list, and save up to 10 favourite stickers.

Premium users will also get access to a premium sticker collection that will be updated monthly by Telegram artists, the ability to have animated profile pictures, special badges that appear next to their names, and more.

While this all sounds exciting, Telegram failed to disclose how much its premium subscription service will cost. However, Techcrunch believes it will be priced in the range of US$5 to US$6 (~S$6.92 to ~S$8.31).
