Future smart TVs can look forward to better upscaled 4K content and higher quality audio, now that TCL has announced its new smart TV processor - the AiPQ Engine Gen 2.

TCL's audiovisual (AV) chipset uses machine-learning algorithms to optimise content visuals and audio in real-time, where it bases its adjustments on ambient and environmental differences.

For instance, the AiPQ Engine Gen 2 can upscale non-4K resolution content, especially if used together with TCL's QLED and Mini-LED display tech. The feature (AI Super Resolution) does the upscaling frame by frame, giving the content 4K quality.

The chipset is also capable of recognising visual content - such as identifying green landscapes, night scenes, animation-based footage, and motion - to help bring the visuals to life.

The AiPQ Engine Gen 2 also adapts smart TV audio based on the content and the environment where the smart TV resides in. By using the smart TV's built-in microphones, it automatically adjusts the volume to adapt accordingly.
