There are two models in the new Synology RackStation RS822+ series, the RS822+ and RS822+RP. The main difference between them is that the RS822+RP comes with a redundant power supply unit.

They come powered by a quad-core AMD Ryzen V1500B, with 2GB of RAM pre-installed (up to a maximum of 32GB). The four storage bays are compatible with all 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch SATA drives. Users can also expand storage to eight drive bays by adding on one RX418 expansion unit.

In terms of performance, their transfer speeds are up to 2,103MB/sec for sequential reading and 1,074MB/sec for writing, making them ideal for applications such as data management and backup linked with cloud solutions.

If used as a storage device for a local surveillance solution, they can connect and store data from up to 40 IP-based cameras.

Raid level support is compatible with Synology Hybrid RAID, Basic, JBOD, and RAID 0/1/5/6/10.

Network support is covered by four Gigabit LAN ports, an eSATA connector, a 10/25 gigabit LAN card, and a PCI-Express expansion slot for adding an M.2 SSD for cache.

Pricing and availability

Both units are now available from Synology resellers and partners, with the RS822+ priced at S$1,799 and the RS822RP+ going for S$2,199. Note that these are just the prices for the enclosures and that storage will cost extra.
