Surprise! Windows 11 is arriving sooner than you think

Mark your calendars! Beginning October 5, Microsoft will begin rolling out Windows 11 as a free upgrade to eligible Windows 10 PCs as well as pre-loading it onto new PC purchases.

This was announced in a blog post from Aaron Woodman, general manager of Windows marketing at Microsoft who said that the rollout decision was based on learnings from the launch of Windows 10.

Not all the goodies at the same time

A lot of people will be waiting for this feature to finally arrive.

While we can expect Windows 11 to arrive in October, at least one of the features we’ve covered won’t arrive with it.

According to Woodman’s post, the ability to run Android Apps on Windows 11 would be arriving on Windows Insider in the coming months, so it probably won’t arrive properly until the end of the year at the earliest.

If your device meets the Windows 11 specifications, Woodman added:

If you have a Windows 10 PC that’s eligible for the upgrade, Windows Update will let you know when it’s available. You can also check to see if Windows 11 is ready for your device by going to Settings > Windows Update and select Check for updates

Woodman’s post also included a list of upcoming devices from partners like Acer, ASUS, Dell, Lenovo, and Microsoft itself that we can expect to see pre-installed with Windows 11.

Windows 10 will still be around for a while

But if you can’t upgrade to Windows 11, Windows 10 will be around for a while more. Microsoft has said that they will continue to support it through 14 October 2025, with the next feature update to arrive later this year.
