Supply constraints likely to affect the iPhone and iPad in Q4

Apple's upcoming iPhone 13 models could be available in limited quantities.

During Apple's earnings call yesterday, Apple CEO Tim Cook and CFO Luca Maestri responded to investors' queries about the impact of the global chip shortage on the company. Maestri reportedly shared that the company expects supply constraints during the September quarter to be greater than what it experienced during the June quarter. Nonetheless, both executives are confident that the company will see "very strong double digit growth".

Earlier this year, Apple confirmed that there would be supply constraints for the iPad and Mac in the second half of the year. TSMC and Foxconn expect the component shortages to last through 2022. Contract manufacturing company Flex predicts the chip shortages to last into 2023.

Apple reported another blockbuster quarter with US$21.4 billion in profit on US$81.4 billion in revenue. The iPhones contributed a staggering US$39.6 billion in sales.

The iPhone 13 lineup is expected to be announced in late September.
