Supplier begins shipping first batch of HomePod smart speakers

Apple has not revealed the exact date of the availability of its HomePod smart speaker, but industry sources claimed that it could hit retail shelves in the U.S, the U.K and Australia soon.

According to Taipei Times, Inventec Corp - which is one of the two assemblers for the HomePod - has started shipping the first batch of speakers. The initial shipment is estimated to be about 1 million units.

“The Taiwanese company has begun HomePod shipments. However, revenue contribution from the product to Inventec is expected to be limited this quarter, as the initial shipment is not large,” a source in HomePod’s supply chain told the Taipei Times by telephone on condition of anonymity.

The other assembler is Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. Both assemblers are expected to ship between 10 to 12 million units of the HomePod this year. The delay in the availability of the HomePod is rumored to be due to the fine-tuning of software and hardware integration.
