Strategy Analytics, a consumer and market research solutions company based in Europe, has recently released a report detailing the leading players in 5G standardisation.

According to the research firm, even though there are more than 500 member companies in the 3GPP, only a few are leading the 5G standardisation process.

More specifically, after looking at the 3GPP Release 15 and Release 16, Strategy Analytics found that the bulk of the work — 78% of 5G-related papers and 77% of 5G-related Work Items and Study Items — are done by 13 companies.

And the company that has the biggest share of contributions is Huawei, followed by Ericsson, Nokia, Qualcomm and China Mobile. The fact that Huawei, Ericsson and Nokia are heavily involved in the 5G standards probably shouldn’t come as a surprise — after all, all three are are heavyweights (and rivals) in the networking and telecommunications infrastructure space.

Just this Feb, Huawei revealed that it has already secured 91 commercial 5G contracts and shipped over 600,000 5G Massive MIMO Active Antenna Units globally (via Huawei Central).
