From tomorrow onwards, StarHub will be the world's first to offer Linksys' new EA8100-AH Max-Stream AC2600 MU-MIMO Gigabit WiFi router.

Starting 7 July 2018, customers who sign up for or renew their StarHub 1GBps fiber home broadband and HomeHub Plus plans will receive the Linksys EA8100 router at no extra cost.

Previously, customers received the AC1900-class Linksys EA7500. The EA7500 is a great router but the new EA8100 should be significantly quicker.

To begin, the Linksys EA8100 is a dual-band AC2600-class router with one key feature that is not found in most routers in its class: DFS capability.

One of the problems of slow Wi-Fi is congestion. If you live in a typical apartment, you will find that your home is surrounded by tens of Wi-Fi networks and these networks are all fighting for a small number of available channels. This causes congestion which has a negative impact on performance.

The Linksys EA8100 features four antennas for wide area coverage.

DFS or Dynamic Frequency Selection allows the Linksys EA8100 to utilize 5GHz channels that are typically reserved for radar use by government services.

The majority of consumer-grade routers can't touch this spectrum, which means if you have a Linksys EA8100 router, you would be the only ones to use these less congested channels. The end result? Faster Wi-Fi performance.

Apart from DFS support, the Linksys EA8100, as an AC2600-class router, supports speeds of up to 800Mbps on its 2.4GHz network and 1,733Mbps on its 5GHz network.

Like most routers in its class, it comes with a single Gigabit Ethernet WAN port, four Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports, one USB 3.0 port, and another USB 2.0 port.

Users can also remotely control and manage aspects of the Linksys EA8100 router using the Linksys app, which is available as free download for iOS and Android devices.

StarHub will begin offering the Linksys EA8100 router to customers who sign up and renew their StarHub 1Gbps fiber home broadband and HomeHub Plus plans from tomorrow (7 July) onwards.
