It’s only a matter of time. Cable TV operator StarHub TV has announced that it's launching a new Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) service for Singapore homes today, April 9. Unlike before this, where the company’s cable TV services are only offered via its cable network, the new service, called StarHub TV on Fiber, will be delivered over the fiber broadband network.

To take advantage of the high bandwidth, StarHub TV on Fiber is an all HD service, with over 200 channels. Through a Simultaneous Recording feature, customers can record up to two shows simultaneously using an approved external hard disk drive. More features are also planned for, including Social TV, multi-room recording, picture-in-picture, and Personalization (think profiles for each member in the family), which would be rolled out progressively.

Users can create separate profiles for each family member, so that each of them can customize his or her preferred channels, language, and more. (Image source: StarHub.)

To get StarHub TV on Fiber, your home must be fiber-ready, and you need either a StarHub Fiber Home Broadband subscription or a HomeHub plan. In addition to fiber broadband, each of StarHub’s HomeHub plans also includes StarHub TV on Fiber, a 21Mbps mobile broadband, and a home phone line. Subscription fees for StarHub TV on Fiber will be similar to prices for StarHub’s existing cable TV service. Rental for the IPTV set-top box costs S$6.42 per month (including GST). You can visit StarHub's website for more information.
