StarHub to offer its mobile pre-paid services via Slimduet

Tourists coming to Singapore can soon get a Slimduet plan powered by StarHub.

Ever heard of Slimduet? It’s a “soft SIM over-the-air download services platform” for international travelers from GreenRoam Limited, a Hong Kong mobile virtual network operator founded by Taiwan’s Taisys Technologies Co. Ltd.

In a nutshell, you buy and stick a very thin sticker onto the back of your SIM card, which then allows you to purchase and download a pre-paid mobile service package offered by a mobile network operator in the country you’re traveling to using the Slimduet app (available for both Android and iOS). After which, all that’s required is to activate the service when you arrive at your destination to get connected to that country’s local mobile network.

Now if you’re a visitor coming to Singapore, know that local telco StarHub, which has joined the Slimduet Alliance, has today announced that it will start offering its mobile pre-paid services via Slimduet from June 15, 2015.

The plan that StarHub is selling through the Slimduet app is a US$14 pre-paid package that comes with S$18 credit for local talktime, SMS and data use, free 100GB local data for five days, and free IDD018 calls to 19 destinations. Activating the pre-paid package can be done at selected StarHub authorized dealers in Changi Airport. Users can thereafter dial *123# to manage their pre-paid account and buy additional voice and data plans.

The advantage of this Slimduet soft SIM service is that after your trip, there’s no need to remove the sticker, since it can be reused for future trips to countries that has Slimduet coverage. In addition to Singapore, there is Slimduet coverage in Hong Kong, Korea, Taiwan, Japan, the U.K., USA, and Thailand.
