Here's how StarHub customers can get their Disney+ subscription

(Updated with clarifications from StarHub)

Earlier this month, we learned that StarHub has acquired the exclusive distribution right for Disney+. That actually caused some confusions among netizens on social media outlets and our forums. So while you cannot get Disney+ via other third-party partners, for example, Singtel or M1, you can subscribe to the streaming service on its own without having to subscribe to any of StarHub's services.

But if you're an existing StarHub customer or plan to take up their mobile or broadband plans, here's how you will (or can) get Disney+:

StarHub TV+ subscribers

Existing and new StarHub TV+ subscribers who have taken up at least two TV+ Passes will be eligible for a Disney+ promotional offer at launch - which StarHub has yet to announce (StarHub has clarified that as long as customers have two TV+ Passes or more, Disney+ will be free). If you choose to take up this offer, do note that this subscription will only be for up to two years from the streaming service's launch date until 22 February 2023. Disney+ will be available for streaming on compatible televisions and mobile devices.

StarHub Fibre Broadband subscribers

If you're on the 2Gbps Fibre Broadband plan, congratulations! Disney+ access will be available to you for free for up to 12 months. If you're on a lower plan and wish to consider an upgrade so as to get Disney+ for free, take into account that a direct subscription for the streaming service is $11.98 per month or the sweeter $119.98 per annum plan (basically, you get two months free here). So, do your math and compare prices before taking the jump - and also take into account that you will be tied down to a 2-year contract as well if you're taking the StarHub route.

StarHub Mobile subscribers

If you're on a Mobile+ $95 and $155 5G-enabled plans, congratulations! Disney+ will be available to you for free for up to 12 months as well.

Now for my money, this is the most expensive way to get Disney+ if you're not already on these plans and wish to upgrade just to get access to a free streaming service. Please don't do that. However, if your company is paying for your mobile phone usage then conversely this will be the cheapest way to access Disney+ (it's free!). You might also be thinking of subscribing or upgrading to these plans anyway, then you can consider it as getting $119.98 back in value.

Some of you might also be smartly wondering; if you're already on an eligible Mobile+ 5G-enabled plan and also a StarHub 2Gbps Broadband subscriber, can you stack your free Disney+ access to turn it into a 2-year subscription? The short answer is, no. But over at an FAQ at StarHub's Disney+ page, it's interesting to note that the telco mentioned this:

Yes, you will get one Disney+ access per eligible service. However, you will be required to use a different email address to register for separate Disney+ accounts.

For more information, you can also check out StarHub will send SMS or email notifications to all eligible customers on how to activate their new Disney+ access, progressively from mid-February 2021. For more information on Disney+, tune in to Disney's own page.
