Spotify's 2020 gaming recap shows an increase in console streaming

It’s been a fantastic year for gaming - The Game Awards stands as proud proof of that. According to Spotify, the music service saw a 55% global increase in streaming from gaming consoles over the past year. Considering how much of a boom the industry has seen this year due to lockdowns, that makes sense. 

Spotify also noted that early morning (6am to 9am) streaming on gaming consoles saw an increase by more than 47%, with the consoles including both Xbox and PlayStation. In Singapore, streaming on gaming consoles has increased by more than 32% in the past year. Here are the most streamed tracks from gaming consoles in Singapore this year:

  1. “The Box” by Roddy Ricch

  2. “Blinding Lights” by The Weeknd

  3. “Falling” by Trevor Daniel

  4. “Blueberry Faygo” by Lil Mosey

  5. “death bed (coffee for your head)” by Powfu, beabadoobee

Globally, the most-streamed videogame soundtracks were: 

  1. “Minecraft - Volume Beta” by C418

  2. “Doom (Original Game Soundtrack)” by Mick Gordon

  3. “DEATH STRANDING: Timefall” by DEATH STRANDING: Timefall

Given that Doom Eternal launched with an excellent soundtrack that still hasn’t hit Spotify, gamers might’ve turned to the last game’s album for their Mick Gordon fix. Rap and Trap were also the most-streamed music genres for gaming this year. In Singapore, the most streamed artists on gaming consoles were:

  2. Travis Scott

  3. The Weeknd

  4. XXXTENTACION

  5. Drake
