To make users spend more time on its service, Spotify is making another major push in videos.

According to Bloomberg, Spotify has confirmed that it is rolling out 12 original series for free and paid subscribers in the U.S, the U.K, Germany and Sweden later this year. Episodes of each program can range from a few minutes to 15 minutes.

Some of the original concepts include "Landmark", a documentary series in which each episode tells the story of a major moment in music history (e.g. Beach Boys album "Pet Sounds"); "Rush Hour" where two hip-pop artists are brought together to produce something for performing before a crowd. In the pipeline are comedy and animation series to cater to the young subscriber base.

“Music will always be most important, but our audience likes us and wants more from us,” Tom Calderone, the company’s content partnerships chief, said in an interview at Spotify’s New York office in a conference room named after the legendary CBGB nightclub. “We have to figure out a second act, and I think it will come out of video. The idea is to make sure users know they can come here for something other than playlists.”

With over 75 million users, Spotify is depending on video content to attract new customers and maintain its lead over Apple Music. It announced plans to offer videos and podcasts in May 2015, but only made them available in January this year.
