Sony's PlayStation VR headset seems compatible with Xbox One and even PC

It’s hard to imagine that hardware intended for the PlayStation 4 console works even for the Xbox, but that is exactly what’s happening with the new PlayStation VR headset. Well, sort of – all you’ll be doing is use the PlayStation VR in lieu of your TV screen.

This is possible with the PS VR’s Cinematic Mode which, as the name suggests, simply outputs what should to go the TV to the PS VR instead. Also making this possible is HDMI, which the PS VR’s processing unit serves as a bridge between the console and the TV. And with that, it would also be theoretically possible to do the same with a PC.

All that said, the settings and adjustments of the PS VR are all accessed from the PS4, so if you do use it with anything that’s not a PS4, then you’re stuck with whatever you see in the headset.

We can also imagine playing something fast-paced like a first-person shooter to be as nauseating as if you were playing an actual VR title, without the benefit of being able to change your field of view with your actual head. Though if you've ever wanted to play your favorite games lying down on the couch or bed, the PS VR may be a possible alternative to craning your head to an extremely uncomfortable position for unhealthy periods of time. Yay?
