A good car audio system can make the driving experience enjoyable, but most factory-fitted audio systems in our cars are nothing to shout about. Adding or upgrading the subwoofer of the car audio system can make quite an impact on your favourite tunes, adding that bit of oomph to your beats. Unfortunately, subwoofers tend to take up a sizeable amount of space and that's not great if you are driving a smaller-sized car.

Sleek Design

Sony aims to address this issue with the introduction of the new XS-AW8 compact powered subwoofer, by offering good quality audio without occupying a large amount of car space. This slim design subwoofer packs quite a punch at only 3 1/8-inch (7.8 cm) deep, easily fitting into tight spaces of smaller cars. For easy installation and tuning, all the connections and amplifier controls on the XS-AW8 are located together on one side of the subwoofer. It features a variable low-pass filter for simple connection to full-range sources, including the speaker-level inputs. There is also a switch to customise the subwoofer phase output, preventing any reduced bass response due to phase cancellation from your speakers.

Powerful Sound

The XS-AW8 although compact in size does not lack in performance. It produces 160W (75W RMS) of clean and dynamic bass sound from its matched class A/B amplifier, with Sony’s original power IC designed for high power and natural distortion-free sound even at high output levels. Its low-resonance cast-aluminium slim enclosure is paired with an optimally designed driver unit with a rigid subwoofer diaphragm to reproduce powerful bass sound from its compact dimensions. The built-in amplifier also integrates a sturdy heat-sink to protect the driver unit and amplifier without introducing unwanted vibrations and harmonic distortion.

Input Compatibility

Not all factory-fitted radio systems in cars come with pre-amp outputs. There is no need to worry with the XS-AW8 as it accepts both line-level and high-level audio inputs. Its compatibility with up to 5V pre-amp outputs allows you to utilise higher voltage audio for a clean audio signal and less external noise. It also comes with a wired remote commander controller, allowing you to adjust the subwoofer volume from your driver seat while on the move.

The Sony XS-AW8 will be available soon in November 2020.
