Flagship-grade Sony Xperia 5 V arrives in Singapore
The Sony Xperia 5 V has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset to power all its functions and features. Sony said its latest phone offers the “latest camera sensor technology”, a new Video Creator app that can create videos within a minute, and excellent battery uptimes with the improvements made to the smartphone.
Sony Xperia 5 V cameras
The Xperia 5 V has Exmor T for its main camera, which is the same sensor lineup found in the premium flagship Sony Xperia 1 V.
You’re looking at a dual rear configuration with a 52MP main camera (48MP effective) with a 1/1.35-inch Exmor T for mobile sensor with a f/1.9 aperture, and a 12MP ultrawide (123° FOV, Exmor RS sensor). These two cameras offer 16mm, 24mm, and 48mm equivalent focal lengths, with the 48mm being its 2x optical zoom mode.
Sony has packed in AI to enhance portraiture photos and “Creative Look” presets that let you tweak your shots before post-processing.
For videos, there’s a new Video Creator app for automatic video editing — the user only needs to decide on the clip duration, the footage and images to use, and Video Creator will do the rest for you. Naturally, these clips are designed for social media use, like TikTok, Instagram Stories, and Lemon8.
Improved battery life
The Sony Xperia 5 V has a 5,000mAh battery with reduced power consumption — Sony claimed it consumes approximately 20% less battery than the previous model. Further to that is PD 3.0 fast-charging at a peak of 50% in 30 minutes, although Sony doesn’t specify the exact wattage. There’s also Qi wireless charging support.
To improve its battery longevity, Sony also has technologies around preventing battery deterioration and claims 80% capacity even after three years of use. To top it all off is a heat diffusion sheet that’s 40% larger than its predecessor, making it more efficient at heat management.
Sony Xperia 5 V specs
As a flagship phone, the Sony Xperia 5 V packs a 6.1-inch, 21:9 aspect ratio OLED panel rated at FHD+ (2,520 x 1,080 pixels resolution). On it is a 120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz motion blur reduction, and 100% coverage for the DCI-P3 gamut.
You’re also getting dual-SIM (nanoSIM) and a MicroSD card slot, making it one of the rare modern flagship smartphones that still offer external physical storage support today. Topping the spec sheet off is IP65/68 water and dust resistance, a USB 3.2 Type-C port (5Gbps), Wi-Fi 6 compatibility, 5G network support, and Bluetooth 5.3 (with Bluetooth Low Energy Audio).
