Sony said to make fewer PlayStation 5 consoles due to chip shortage
The supply of Sony PlayStation 5 consoles is expected to be tight this holiday season.
According to Bloomberg, Sony reportedly lowered its production forecast for the current financial year from 16 million to 15 million. The lower production forecast is said to be caused by logistics issues and the ongoing chip shortage. In addition, delays in arrival of components and different levels of vaccine rollout made operations at production facilities more complicated.
Earlier this month, reports suggest that Nintendo is only able to make about 24 million Switch consoles through to March. This is a decrease of 20% from the its original plan. The global chip shortage has affected many countries including Apple, but GoPro claims its holiday sales will not be affected. Contract manufacturing company Flex claims the chip shortage could last into 2023.
