Sony’s latest smartphone is the Xperia 5

Sony has just announced a new Xperia 5 mobile phone that combines a 21:9 aspect ratio with 6.1-inch Full HD+ (2,520x 1,080) OLED display. Measuring just 68mm wide, the phone is certainly very slim, and it weighs just 164g, so you almost won’t feel it in your pocket.

The Xperia 5 has a triple camera equipped with 12 MP image sensors and optical image stabilisation (OIS). It also gains Eye AF (Auto Focus) derived from Sony’s Alpha interchangeable lens camera, so your phone camera will actually be able to identify and keep focus on your subject’s eye. The triple lens camera features the equivalent of a 26mm (F1.6) versatile lens, 52mm (F2.4) telescopic lens, and 16mm (F2.4) super-wide lens (all 35mm equivalents) setup, so you’ll have good options no matter what you like to capture.

The phone also gains “X1 for mobile”, an upscaling technology derived from Sony’s Bravia TV series. This allows it to convert SDR (Standard Dynamic Range) content into beautiful, HDR (High Dynamic Range) quality using HDR Remastering technologies, meaning even low resolution online videos will look better with more contrast, colour, and clarity. Additionally, improved “Game enhancer” boasts expanded recording features, as well as allowing users to enjoy immersive 21:92 and optimised gaming experiences.

The Xperia 5 is IP65/68 rated for water resistance.

Xperia 5 will be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform. It also gets  Sony’s “Smart connectivity,” deep learning technology which analyses Wi-Fi signals and predict near-future connectivity issues. Smart connectivity will automatically switch to LTE when it predicts any compromise in Wi-Fi connection to ensure you always have optimal connectivity. It's also IP65/68 rated so you have any worries about dust or rain.

Pricing and availability information wasn’t announced, but we’ll update this piece as soon as we get word.
