The drip-feeding of new PlayStation 5 information continues.

Sony recently launched an official PlayStation 5 website, taking a new step towards the next-generation console’s upcoming reveal. While the website doesn’t offer us much in new information, a statement on the site reads:

We've begun to share some of the incredible features you can expect from PlayStation 5, but we're not quite ready to fully unveil the next generation of PlayStation. Sign up below to be among the first to receive updates as we announce them, including news on the PS5 release date, PS5 price and the upcoming roster of PS5 launch games.

The site also includes an email sign-up form, so interested parties can get more information at a later date. The bigger news here however, is that Sony isn’t ready to fully unveil the PlayStation 5 - contrary to all the rumours that have been swirling around.

Several sources have pointed to February 5, 16 and 24 as possible reveal dates for the console this month - mostly due to there being other PlayStation events already scheduled for those dates. The big PlayStation 4 reveal also happened back in February 2013 - so there was historical precedence to an event happening this month as well.

PlayStation’s statement seems to be in response to these rumours, letting everyone know that their grand reveal won’t be happening this month. This actually lines up with leaker PSErebus’ claim that Sony plans to reveal the PlayStation 5 in March 2020, with pre-orders opening up in the same month. He does have some credibility in the community as well, having accurately leaked The Last of Us 2’s original release date.

Take all these rumours with a grain of salt however, as Sony Interactive Entertainment hasn’t made any official statement on a specific date yet. For now, we’ll just have to make do with the small tidbits of information we actually have on the PlayStation 5 - like its tech, release date and controller design
