It's been nearly two yearss since Sony released the excellent WF-1000XM4 true wireless earbuds and it looks like a success could be on the way.

The Walkman Blog has just shared a series of leaked images of what is allegedly Sony's newest flagship true wireless earbuds. It will reportedly be called the WF-1000XM5 but that's not confirmed at this point.

From the images, we can see that these new earbuds are quite similar to its predecessor. The general shape of the earbuds look to be the same but it does seem slightly more compact and they clearly have a glossy finish.

That said, the leaked photos seem to show contacts for an additional driver unit so the WF-1000XM5 could be the first Sony flagship earbuds to feature a dual-driver setup.

There are some notable changes to the charging case. Again, the design seems similar but The Walkman Blog reports that Sony is moving from a 3-pin to 2-pin system for recharging.

The charging case will still charge over USB-C and wireless charging but it could gain faster recharge speeds.

The question on most people's mind would be: when will they be announced? It's hard to say, but according to an earlier report by The Walkman Blog, it's believed that we could see these sometime between May and August.
