More than six months after announcing the Airpeak brand, Sony unveiled the introductory model, the S1.

The Airpeak S1 is the world's smallest drone that can be equipped with a full-size mirrorless interchangeable-lens Alpha camera such as the Alpha 7S series, the Alpha 7R series and Alpha 1.

Sony claims the professional drone is able to reach a maximum speed of 90km/h and stay stable in strong wind up to 20m/s. The drone also has a proprietary 17" propeller and brushless motor with a flight control system for stable flight and high maneuverability.

The Airpeak S1 relies on sensing technology to remain stable in flight. The stereo cameras installed in five locations (front, back, left, right, bottom) of the drone help to detect obstacles in the vicinity and automatically lower the speed or stop.

Coupled with Sony's Vision Sensing Processor to process camera data at high speed and proprietary algorithms to accurately estimate the drone's spatial position and orientation in real time, the Airpeak S1 can continue to fly even if Global Navigation Satellite System reception is blocked.

While the Airpeak S1 comes with an advanced remote controller, iOS/iPadOS users can download the Airpeak Flight app to monitor status information such as flight distance, remaining battery level, change operations and settings on the screen. There is also a dual operation mode that allows one user to operate the drone and the other user to operat the gimbal and camera at the same time.

The Airpeak S1 is priced at US$9,000 and comes with two pairs of propellers, a remote controller, two batteries, and a batter charger. It is available for pre-order and ship to customers in fall of 2021.
