Sonos has just unveiled its most rugged, compact, and portable wireless speaker yet and it's aptly called the Roam.

Available in two colours – Shadow black and Lunar White – the Sonos Roam measures 16.8cm tall and it's roughly 6cm thick. It has a triangular prism shape so users have the flexibility to place it however they like.

Sonos claims a water and dust resistance rating of IP67. This means it can stay submerged in up to a metre of water for up to 30 minutes.

Inside, there's a custom-designed racetrack mid-wooder and a single tweeter powered by dual Class H amplifiers.

To ensure the drivers sound their absolute best, the Roam employs Sonos' Automatic Trueplay tuning technology that constantly monitors its environment and tunes and calibrates the drivers to match.

The Roam supports streaming over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. It will automatic switch to Wi-Fi when its within range of a supported network and it will automatically go to Bluetooth if it senses it's out of range of the Wi-Fi network.

One nifty feature it supports is Sound Swap. By holding down the play/pause button, the Roam will hand off whatever music it is playing to the nearest Sonos speaker in the vicinity. You can also do the same to "absorb" music from the nearest Sonos speaker to the Roam.

The Roam works with the Sonos S2 app and supports over 100 streaming services including Spotify, Tidal, Deezer, Amazon Music, YouTube Music, and more. You can also stream music using AirPlay 2.

It has a far-field microphone array which it uses to support Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. However, it's not designed to be as a conference speaker.

The Sonos Roam will be available in Singapore from 21 April 2021 and it is priced at S$299. The above-mentioned optional wireless charger is S$79.
