SoftBank's president hinted that the new iPhones will launch on 20th September

Did SoftBank's president, Ken Miyauchi, accidentally reveal the launch date of Apple's new iPhones? It sure seems like it.

During a recent meeting, Miyauchi was asked about Japan's new Telecommunications Business Law, which will go into effect on 1st October.

The new law will prevent carriers from bundling data and contract fees together, which is what carriers typically do to make up for subsidies on high-end phones. From 1st October, Japanese carriers must separate data and device fees.

In response, Miyauchi said:

"I'm honestly thinking about what I should do for about ten days. Excuse me, I shouldn't say that. Nobody knows when the new iPhone will be released. When it is, it will be unbundled for at least 10 days. After that, it will be part of a bundle."

This suggests that the new iPhones will be launched on 20th September. This makes sense since Apple typically announces new iPhones on the second Tuesday or Wednesday of September (10 or 11 September), after which it goes into retail on the following Friday.

There have been numerous leaks of this year's new iPhones. Some suggest that the new iPhones will sport USB-C ports, and many say that the new iPhones will have a triple camera setup. Most recently, we heard that the new iPhones might even support Apple Pencil.

Whatever it is, we'll just have to wait and see. If Apple keeps to its usual timeline, all shall be revealed in about a month's time.
