Smart Connector may not appear in the iPhone 7
Apple may not be introducing the Smart Connector in its next generation iPhone after all.
According to Japanese site Macotakara, it is likely that the Smart Connector will not be introduced on the iPhone 7 this year. In late March, Apple Insider received several photos of the iPhone 7 Plus from Chinese sources which show the Smart Connector at the middle on the bottom of the device. Macotakara reaffirmed the leaked photo as legitimate and chipped in with its own report on a TrueTone display.
The Smart Connector was introduced on the 12.9-inch iPad Pro as a secondary input method for data and power for accessories. The recently announced 9.7-inch iPad Pro also has it. While it makes sense for the iPad Pro to have the Smart Connector, the use case for the iPhone is harder to justify.
