Smart is making a comeback in Singapore. The brand recently previewed the Smart #1 Pro+ and Smart #1 Brabus cars ahead of its official launch later this year.

Those old enough to remember Smart will remember the brand most for its compact city cars – particularly the Fortwo. That philosophy hasn't changed as the company is still focused on making compact cars suited for city driving.

The Smart #1 is a small-ish all-electric crossover SUV that is roughly the size of the BYD Dolphin and Hyundai Kona Electric. Two variants will be offered here, the #1 Pro+ and #1 Brabus.

Although the #1 Pro+ is the "base" model, its performance is quite remarkable. It's rear-wheel drive and has a single electric motor that develops 268hp. This is enough to get it from a standstill to 100km/h in 6.7 seconds, which is pretty quick. It has a 66kWh battery, which develops a claimed range of over 400km.

The interior of both variants will be largely similar. The #1 Brabus, however, will get an alcantara steering wheel and metal pedals.

The #1 Brabus has dual motors and is all-wheel drive. Thanks to its additional motor, its power output is raised to 422hp and its 0-100m/h time is dropped to just 3.9 seconds. To handle the additional power, the #1 Brabus has a specially-tuned chassis and larger brakes. There are also minor tweaks to the interior so owners know they are driving something that is special. It still has a 66kWh battery, but Smart claims it can still manage around 400km on a full charge.

Both variants will support up to 150kW charging, which means you can get from 10% to 80% charge in less than 30 minutes. Their interiors will also be largely similar. Both variants will have a 9.2-inch digital instrument cluster and a large 12.8-inch infotainment display. The #1 Brabus, however, will have a sporty-looking Alcantara steering wheel and metal pedals.

Pricing and availability (Updated on 23 April)

Smart and Cycle & Carriage did not unveil specific pricing and availability details at the event. Those details will be unveiled at its official launch event, which will be taking place later this month at VivoCity. We will update this article once we get more details.

The Smart #1 Pro+ and #1 Brabus have both officially launched in Singapore and are on sale and on display at Vivocity. will be available at a special price of S$207,000 and S$242,000 respectively. Prices are inclusive of COE. However, this price is limited to the first 20 units across both models.

Once the these 20 units are sold out, the Smart #1 Pro and #1 Brabus will revert to their original prices of S$240,888 and S$275,888 respectively. Again, prices are inclusive of COE and are correct at the time of publishing. Clearly, the early bird prices are attractive, so if you are keen, you should definitely head down to Vivocity now. The cars will be on display at Vivocity from now until 28 April.

Additionally, the Smart showroom will be opened at Level 3 of the Mercedes-Benz Centre in the second half of this year.
